Please give us your thoughts on the following questions.

How has the iPad broadened your teaching strategies? Has it supplemented your curriculum?   Have you designed a lesson utilizing the iPad?  Have you discovered any digital textbooks which can be integrated into your curriculum? Do you believe the iPad is a tool that can effectively engage today's learners and enhance their academic success?

Is there anything else you'd like to add about your experience?

  1. I did not develop any specific lesson plans because most of the tools I found on the ipad were not user friendly. I tested several teaching strategies using apps, but they were more time consuming that other methods. Once I practice more, I am sure they will get easier. However, my personal ipad is a I and not compatible with the overhead in my classroom.

EMC is a high level (college prep ) textbook series that will be available in i-format for the 2012-2013 school year. I believe this series is much better than our current series.

I do believe it will be effective to engage today's learners. However, playing around with apps is not a supplement for training teachers to use a strategy. This was a fun way to get teachers excited about the device, but a more formal plan is needed. I believe we need current classroom teachers trained to use the technology. I do not believe that Loyola has any current employee that is capable of training teachers to use this device for education. We need Mac to help in this training or locate a school that is currently using this technology on a daily basis in the classroom.

There are huge possibilities, and I hope that we implement the use with care and professional training.

  2. I come away with continued interest in using the ipad in class. To use it effectively, I would want each student or pair of students to have an ipad and I would want training. I did not find too many free or very inexpensive apps that could replace websites or programs we currently use in class. In fact, many videos, animations, and tutorials do not work on ipad yet. Perhaps the more expensive apps would be good substitutes or improvements on current lessons we have.
My biggest hope is for student textbook prices to go down with ibooks. I think this is most exciting for me.

  3. I love the iPad and it's versatility in the music classroom. The ability to have a portable MIDI lab at the palm of your hands is extremely valuable in the songwriting and analyzing aspect. The ability to place the device on a music stand and record is also great. I would like to explore using more of this device in all of my classes and hope to purchase my own in the near future.

Once apps are created like notebook for tablet PC, and Smart Music is available for the iPad, this will be a very impressive addition to the music classroom. I look forward to working with iPads further and seeing what they bring.
