Please reflect upon and then share your comments on the benefits you have derived from participation in the REAL Tech program at Loyola Academy. What about your participation has worked out the best for you? I am also interested in knowing how you feel the program has facilitated your meeting or exceeding National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers in one or more of the following areas:

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments
Model digital-age work and learning
Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Implement the IPP, Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (LA extra credit!)

Further information about the standards can be found at:

Thanks so much for your thoughts! You rock!

  1. The renewal program has been a great help to me and my students, especially the one track Latin II group I teach. I have used my laptop to model schemetization marks on the Latin text for my students -- similar to diagramming sentences. I have posted worksheets and readings for them as well.

I have also benefitted from the Library of Congress workshop which I atended last summer and plan to use the resources on an architectural project for my Latin II 1 track class and Latin III Honors class.

During first semester my Latin III honors class used google documents to create powerpoint presentations on the lives of 5 important Romans. They were able to create and edit among themselves and I could access the documents as well to comment on them. This worked very well.

  2. The Real Tech on the Go program has allowed me to become even more creative in my dance teaching. I have created two powerpoint presentations, one on muscles and one on Modern dance pioneers, for my Intermediate Dance classes which allowed my students yet another view point from which to learn the information. As a teacher, creating these powerpoints has also allowed me to re-examine what information I really want them to know and learn.

I also have been using the Windows Movie Maker program to create a video for an upcoming performance, and I will also use it to create a DVD of the dance show.

Mostly I have to say that this program has opened up many more possiblities to me and my teaching in general. I now put more thought into how and why I want to teach my students certain information in a variety of ways.

  4. The Real Tech On the Go program has been a great asset to me both in and out of the classroom. The tablet is a valuable tool in developing lessons for the media-driven student.

Since receiving the tablet, I have created Powerpoint presentations for my Chemistry classes. When giving the presentation to the class, I can take notes directly on the slides or highlight important pieces of information while walking around the classroom and keeping my future chemists on task. :) With the writing capability, it is easy for me to solve problems directly on my computer AND save the notes for a later date or an absent student.

Using the Adobe Suite has been perhaps the most useful tool for me this academic year. The course binders for my classes can be opened using Adobe Acrobat Pro. Using this program, I am able to write directly into a .pdf file and save any changes that I have made. This has saved me numerous hours of preparation time. In addition, I have worked out many of the solutions to the chemistry binders using Adobe Acrobat Pro, and I now have an electronic record of solutions. At times, I might find it necessary to post the solutions to a homework assignment on my course page so that my students can review their answers. This can be done within seconds just by uploading a file to my course page! It is also very easy to extract images from an Adobe file and copy them into a Word document.

Microsoft Excel has been another program that I have used quite extensively within the past few months. After reserving the cart of laptops, I modeled how to graph on Excel while all of my students prepared graphs on their laptops. I found this to be a beneficial experience because my students were able to analyze data on a computer and ask questions as they arose. I have also been able to prepare practice workbooks for my students so that they could download the data directly rather than entering in each piece of data. Outside of the classroom, I have used Excel for my DDI analysis of semester exams, and have began to explore the wide range of functions Excel has to offer.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a Real Tech user. If you are reading and intrigued by Real Tech, you should totally talk to Jan!! It’s a great program!! :)

  5. There are so many benefits to the REAL tech program! It is so nice to have all my files in one place and to be able to bring them home to work on them. It is also easier to show Power Points to my more rowdy class because I am able to walk around the room and show them the slides. In addition, it is nice to write on the screen during a Power Point to better emphasize a point or to clarify a translation.

I have enjoyed the Library of Congress workshop and leaning more about programs I use every day such as Word and Power Point. They all help me teach better and be better organized.

I feel like the program has opened student learning because students are excited to use the touch screen (however I only allow my 1-track students to do this because it is a smaller class). Yet students become excited when I use it in my larger classes because it is novel.
