We heard at our JSEA Technology Coordinators Conference this week about 21st Century education tools, advancing Jesuit education, and the role of the technology community in these regards. Today I invite you, the technology coordinators community, to comment upon the special and specific role of technology coordinators in advancing the mission of Jesuit secondary education. Describe an incident when you or a colleague exemplified the Ignatian principles of cura personalis and/or cura apostolica. Recall successes over the past year. Remember times that made you proud to be part of this mission. Imagine you are telling this story to someone newly hired and you want to convey the impact of our role in advancing Jesuit education.

  3. Our AP Gov instructor has loved blogging on the election. Students are much more thoughtful in live discussion. She uses the blog as pre-class set up on a topic and then post discussion reflection... very IPP...

  7. I take special delight in helping the technophobic faculty member. They are still out there and they are not always of the 'over 40' crowd. One of my favorite memories is of helping our football coach learn how to use a mouse and keyboard. This rough and tough man was sweating when he was required to enter his class grades into a computer. Because of his anxiety, I met with him outside the group sessions. He was always so appreciative of my patience. He was a pillar of the school and felt a need to maintain his larger than life persona.

  8. I am the Director of Technology at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is such an honor to be a part of the JSEA Technology Coordinators group and I enjoy hearing the successes (and barriers) we all have in common.

One of the successful projects we completed over the past year was to impelemnt an iMAC room - similar to the classroom we are in now. It is amazing how the students have taken command of these computers. They have shown their talents in many ways.

The students that have been assigned to the iMAC room are 7th graders. They are currently working on their portfolio in Powerpoint to describe " Who am I?". They have integrated many visual images and sound to integrate with thier portfolio. They develop the sound using a software called Garage Band. Again it is amazing the creativity that they have exemplified.

The students also include a f=reflection on the experience. It is truly an example of IPP and the ignatian way of teaching.

  9. I think it is central for technology diretors to maintain the perpective that the teacher has specific classroom needs that may or may not coincide with the need and/or desire to implement technology. I think it is very significant that we use technology; I blog in Moodle and I have my students relect on poetry and sometimes offer their own origiial stuff. I also allow them to contribute comments on other's work. I do however have a very strict rubric so that the activity remains academic and while I do allow quite a bit in the way of creativity, I do want to maintain the activity as an educational one. I do not blog personally, but I have found that it has been useful for the dscussion of connotative information.
